Free and Reduced Museum Tickets Considering Frugal

Museums can be expensive, but there are so many ways to save money on your trip to the museum both locally here in Cheyenne, and when traveling to other states.

Museum Discounts Nationwide

Every year, the Smithsonian Institute sponsors Museum Day. Museum Day is a national day of free museum admission. Several museums are participating in the program; for a list of participating venues you can visit the Smithsonian site; once you choose the museum that you wish to visit click on admission and print a pass for you and a guest. The website will allow you to print tickets for more than one person; each pass admits two.

• Museum Day is not the only free museum admission, Bank of America is sponsors “Museums On Us” a program where Bank of America customers can get in to the Phoenix Art Museum and the Phoenix Zoo by simply flashing their Bank of America banking card; click here for list of participating museums across the United States.  If you live in a bigger city, check with your local museums to see if they have a Bank of America sponsor.

• Target is sponsors free admission to the Phoenix Children’s Museum on the first Friday of every month; free admission is from 6 pm to 10 pm. The Heard Museum is participating in a similar program on the second Sunday of the month; some exclusion does apply so call ahead.

• If you have not taken advantage of the Culture Pass program at your local library, now is a great time. A Culture Pass can be checked out for a seven day period from both the Phoenix and Glendale libraries and it will gain you free admission to the Arizona Science Center, Phoenix Children’s Museum, the Heard and many more.  Denver offers this same option as a Denver Culture Pass.

In addition to Museum Day, several Denver libraries are handing out Culture Passes. A Culture Pass gives you admission for four to a local museum such as the Phoenix Zoo, Science Center, Children’s Museum and more…To get a Culture Pass you need to visit your local library. There are approximately 65 passes available at any given time. Use your current library card to check out a Culture Pass to the museum of your choice and you will have 7 days to use it.  Cheyenne Mountain Zoo offers several free and reduced price days as well.  You can see a list of those by clicking here.

Museum Discounts and Freebies in Cheyenne….

During Cheyenne Depot Days you can get reduced entry into the Cheyenne Depot Museum.  This is a great time for train lovers of all ages to see behind the scenes of railroads and tour the museum.  Check out the current Depot Days by clicking here.

The Wyoming State Museum is always free, and they have a family day about once a month where there is a free kids activity.  They also sponsor Night At the Museum during Halloween.  It is a fun way to Trick or Treat with candy and activities.

The Cheyenne Botanical Gardens is always free and beautiful! They are open 9-5 with a Children’s village that kids love.

Two other great museums in Cheyenne are the Messenger’s Old West Museum located on Nationway, and Cheyenne Frontier Days Museum located at Cheyenne Frontier Days.  There are sometimes discounts for these museums during frontier days in July, and you can also find discount coupons in the local Valpak.
